‘Twas 2 Weeks Before Christmas

Posted on: December 21st 2011

Seasons Greetings Fellow Explorers,

Wrapping presents and watching classic clay-mation movies has me all jacked up on holiday spirit. As we go into this weekend I had a bright idea to write a poem, more like modify a seasonal favorite, to express how much fun it was to host the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross at the brewery two weeks ago. It was cold out and that made Jubelale taste even better! I hope you enjoy this little treat and don’t hate me if it doesn’t flow as well as the original.

‘Twas two weeks before Christmas

‘Twas two weeks before Christmas, when all through the lawn
Not a creature was stirring; everyone was gone.
The bikes were hung, on their racks with care,
In hopes that cyclocross soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of dismounts danced in their heads.
And mamma in her woolie, and I in my kit,
Had just settled our brains and hope we don’t pit.

When out on the lawn, there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to Deschutes, to hear all the chatter.
Away to the course I flew like a flash,
The grand prix came with such a splash.

The sun in the sky meant no snow,
Gave the lustre of summer to racers below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
A giant keg serving Damn Tasty Beer.

With a crazy young pair, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment they must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles their pours they came,
And they whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

“Now Jubel! Now, Porter! Now, Pale!” Im smitten.
“Deschutes! On, Tap! What are you sippin’?”
At the top of my lungs, I gave a call!
How ‘bout Chainbreaker! The newest of all!”

With pint in hand, I gave it a sip,
With such great service, I gave them a tip.
Over the flyover the racers they flew,
With bellies of Jubelale, and Mirror Pond too.

I head back to the barrel, I can’t get enough!
With so many choices, the decisions were tough.
As I knew in my head, I ordered a round,
another pint came, faster than sound.

As I drank my beer, I saw the wranglers work,
Serving beer from a barrel, what a perk!
I asked to what pleasure do I owe this goody,
This barrel’s on Twitter, @DBWoody!

Sunday night came, they hooked up the truck,
To catch this rare moment, I had much luck.
I heard him exclaim, as they drove out of sight,
“Bravely Done to all, and to all a good-night!”
