A few months ago, our entire team gathered together to watch a live stream of the announcement that our new second home would be in Roanoke, VA. There was a lot of cheering and excitement when our decision was finally unveiled; both here in Oregon with our existing team and with our new “family” in Virginia. Roanoke has made us feel so welcome, from a grass roots social media campaign with its own hashtag #Deschutes2RKE, all the way to the businesses, government, and organizations we worked with throughout the process. We’re looking forward to continuing and growing these relationships in the future.
We are excited to introduce our beers to the Roanoke area this August, and look forward to rolling into town with our famous Street Pub event on August 27. This giant traveling pub is the ultimate craft beer block party, complete with a 402-foot custom bar pouring beers from 50+ tap handles and a culinary demo area serving perfectly paired pub foods. Best of all? The event is free to attend (or you can buy VIP tickets here), family friendly, AND 100 percent of beer proceeds from each of our Street Pub’s stops goes to local nonprofit organizations.
In each city where Street Pub sets up shop, we typically select one or two nonprofits with which to partner. (Last year, we raised almost $400,000 in six stops.) In Roanoke, we are taking a slightly different approach, and are working with a wide range of nonprofits. Why? Well, we think a well-rounded giving program for our east coast community is important, just like we do it here in our backyard. We have a couple of different charitable giving programs and support many different organizations that fall within our giving guidelines. We look forward to eventually having this same model once we are brewing and shipping out beer from our Roanoke facility.
So, for the Roanoke Street Pub, we’ll be spreading the love by teaming up with: Roanoke Outside, Blue Ridge Land Conservancy, and Feeding America Southwest Virginia as primary partners, and Pathfinders for Greenways; Clean Valley Council; Family Promise of Greater Roanoke; Roanoke IMBA; LEAP for Local Food; and Bradley Free Clinic of Roanoke Valley as secondary nonprofit partners. Through these nonprofit organizations, we hope to make a significant impact in areas that are vital to the health of the region.
We want to make our first big event in Roanoke special. That’s one reason why we’ve decided to work with such a wide range of nonprofit organizations that are doing great work in the Roanoke area. Because there has been so much interest in the event from the nonprofit community, we will also be offering a limited number of booth spaces during the event at nonprofit row. We hope that this provides a platform for a wide range of organizations to gain awareness, share their story, and garner the benefits of participating in this fun event. If you are interested in participating in nonprofit row, please reach out to our Street Pub Team at: firstname.lastname@example.org for an application. Applications are due by end of day on July 20th!
We look forward to a fun and successful day of fundraising with our new hometown friends. Several of us will be coming out from Oregon to meet everyone and raise a pint so we hope you can join us!
