Valentine's Day Obsidian Stout Chocolate "Love Cakes"
10 Tbs unsalted butter
2/3 C Obsidian Stout
1/2 C cocoa powder
1⅓ C sugar
1⅓ C flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 C sour cream
1 large egg
1 egg yolk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a cupcake tin, heart shaped tins or a 9"x 9" baking pan. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and add the stout. Add the cocoa and whisk until smooth. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly.
In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside for later.
Using a mixer, beat the egg, the egg yolk, and the sour cream.
Add the stout mixture to the egg mixture and mix to combine.
Add the flour mixture to the mixer and mix for 1 minute at low speed. You may need to use a rubber spatula to fold in any excess flour on the sides of the mixing bowl.
Pour the batter into the cupcake tins or baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes. It is done when a fork inserted into the middle comes out clean.
Let cool completely before icing and decorating. We used a buttercream icing recipe and food coloring to decorate. Share with your Valentine and enjoy with a pint of Obsidian Stout!
