Eating, Drinking & Dancing in the Streets

Deschutes

August is here which means Street Fare is near! (Yes, we’re poets and we know it) We can’t believe this is already our fourth year shutting down Davis Street in front of our Portland Pub for this amazing event, bringing together some of Portland’s finest food carts, brilliant local indie bands, and our favorite summer brews.

Over the years we've had quite the variety of food carts take part in the festivities including The Grilled Cheese Grill, Oregon Ice Works, Flavour Spot, Potato Champion, EuroTrash and more. We’re excited to welcome back PDX671 and Touch Down's BBQ this year and look forward to having newcomers The Angry Unicorn, Cheese & Crack, Churros Locos, Savor The Chill, and Garcelon's add their twist, or spice, if you will.

Street

Does anyone out there remember how cool it was to circle around and listen to Langhorne Slim and Chris Funk and then watch Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside headline the first Street Fare in 2010? Amazing as they were, year number two was not to be outdone as Hillstomp brought their bucket thumping energy to the street followed by The Builders and The Butchers marching through the crowd for a memorable grand finale. And last year we were honored to have Eric D. Johnson and the Fruit Bats join us in the 100+ degree heat after working with him early in the summer on our Deschutes River Recordings. If you haven’t listened to his remake of The Byrds’ “Ballad of Easy Rider” you've got to check it out!

What do we have up our sleeves this year you ask? How about The Minus Five, featuring former members of R.E.M., and Hook & Anchor! These two great bands from the Portland area will be joined by a busking mariachi band and bucket drummer, Funk Plastic. We do love our bucket drummers!

So mark your calendars, check out the food & beer pairings, and we’ll look forward to seeing you on Thursday, August 15th for our 4th annual block party event that raises money for the Meals on Wheels People. All proceeds will help provide hot, nutritious meals for Portland’s elderly in need. You can purchase tickets in advance online or pay at the door. Either way, we hope you can come down and join us for one of our favorite events of the summer. And if you do, don’t forget to share your experience using #pdxstreetfare on Twitter and Instagram. Cheers!
