Recovering from Halloween Cyclocross

Deschutes

The Cross Crusade Halloween shenanigans returned to Bend this year with two days of racing taking place literally in our backyard. And yes, that is a ferris wheel in the middle of the course, anchoring this year’s Cyclo Du Soleil theme.

Cyclocross

Not that cyclocross racers necessarily need an excuse to put on a costume…but when it’s the Sunday before Halloween they go all out. Of course, those who don’t dress up get unmercifully heckled so there is an incentive to at least throw on a cape or mask. Many great photos were taken of the Headless Horseman, Mario & Luigi, Flash, and some old guy in an edible bikini so be sure to check out the galleries of Lasala Images, Michelle Bauer, and Jill Rosell.

Deschutes

This is the one weekend where we take over our warehouse, move the pallets of beer aside, and throw the biggest party of the year. Each time we do our best to take it up a notch and this year was no exception. Bringing a vintage carnival/adult circus theme to life demanded transforming the warehouse into a circus tent and recruiting over 40 performers including the local talents of The Spinsterz Circus Center and Shapeshifter Modern Fusion Bellydance plus the unpredictable antics and variety acts of Klown Korps and DJ Delachaux who ventured up from San Francisco. A photo booth in the corner captured some of the fun had by all, including the owner of the brewery who dressed up as the Skipper from Gilligan’s Island. And thanks to those party goers, we were able to raise $7500 for the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance.

Deschutes

We’re looking forward to doing it all over again next year (only bigger and crazier) with the help from our trusty partners, Visit Bend, Old Mill District and Cross Crusade. But first, more racing…US Gran Prix’s Deschutes Brewery Cup will be here in just in a few weeks.
