What a week! Congratulations to all of the incredible athletes, and many thanks to all the fans, supporters, and staff who came from all over the world to be part of the 2012 Olympic Track & Field Trials. We were honored to be part of the festivities at Hayward Field and were so impressed with the fans who stuck it out in the sometimes less-than-ideal Oregon weather. Between our mobile pub-on-wheels, Woody, and our two pop-up pubs around the track, we poured over 300 kegs of damn tasty beer!
Bend athlete, Ashton Eaton, surprised everyone (including himself!) with his win in the Men’s Decathlon. During his last event, the 1500m, he crossed the line at 4:14.48, breaking the World Record for the Men’s Decathlon, previously held by Roman Sebrle. Bravely Done!
On Day 7 of the trials, we hosted a Meet & Greet with another Bend superstar and the 2011 Mountain Running World Champion, Max King. Although King won’t be in London this summer, we’re so proud of his accomplishments, and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue to compete in his favorite event, the 10K steeplechase.
We also extend our congratulations to the extraordinary runners and teammates, Jeneba Tarmoh and Allyson Felix, who tied for third place and the qualifying spot in the Women’s 100m. Although Tarmoh announced she would not compete in the run-off on Monday evening, therefore giving the qualifying spot to Felix, we applaud both women for their impressive skill and dedication to the sport.
