We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day for our first official Black Butte to Mirror Bike Ride and 25th Anniversary Party! This past Saturday hundreds of cyclists came together to ride the back roads of Central Oregon. The ride started at Black Butte Ranch, outside of Sisters and ended by crossing Mirror Pond at Drake Park in downtown Bend. We met folks who had come all the way from Arizona and Nevada to ride the race and see the landmarks that inspired our damn tasty beer.
After 40 miles of cycling, the riders were met with pints of their favorite brews. But the fun was just getting started. We enjoyed delicious food from some local food carts, listened to live music, and watched impressive performers from Bend Circus Center. It was quite the party! We even had to go back to the brewery for more kegs (88 total to be exact), which were tapped in no time. All proceeds from the event benefited our community partners: Deschutes Land Trust, Deschutes River Conservancy, and The Environmental Center, who we’ve worked with for several of our 25 years.
The party continued well into the evening with Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and Andy Frasco & the U.N. rocking out on the main stage as people of all ages (even those in diapers) danced along. Aerial dancing, hula hooping, slacklining and canoe/kayak demos were just a few of the activities set up at Drake Park.
Thanks so much to all of our volunteers, cyclists, community members, supporters, and Deschutes Brewery staff for making this such an amazing event. After speaking with some of the participants it’s clear we will need to start planning the next BB2MP ride! We really couldn’t have done it all without you. Here’s to another 25 years!
