Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain.
Quaintest thoughts--queerest fancies,
Come to life and fade away:
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today. ˜ Edgar Allan Poe

15% of the way to the first century;
1.5% of the way to the first millennium, and going strong.
Gary Fish

History is a funny thing.  As we look at ours here we see that we were here very early in the development of craft beer in America. For many in Bend, we look like old timers.  But we are still a young company and we are moving.

We have had a great first 15 years and the next 15 make them pale by comparison.  We have made some great friends along the way.  Many of the very first customers we welcomed at the pub are still coming in as regulars.  Many others feel like they were there at the beginning.  We haven’t really tried to determine who is who.

Yes, we are growing again.  Our production facility is under construction as we continue to try and keep up with demand.   You have, no doubt, noticed the construction on our new warehouse going on below us across the street from the amphitheater.   By the end of the year our current building will have changed yet again.  We are looking into new territories for our beers as well.  Colorado and Arizona keep coming up in conversation.  We’ll let you know.

We are very pleased and proud of what we have accomplished in our first 15 years.  But, most of all we are proud of you.  You are the ones who really deserve the credit.  Thank you for a wonderful first 15 years!

As is our tradition, the week of June 27 (our actual anniversary), that would be June 23 through 27, we will be offering our Monday locals’ pricing all week!  The evening of June 27 will see special anniversary festivities as well.  Come and help us celebrate.  Next year we’ll be old enough to drive, look out!

Sagebrush Classic & Classic Feast

This year’s Sagebrush Classic and Classic Feast stand to be the finest in a long string.  Again, the beneficiary is the Deschutes Children’s Foundation and a number of selected youth and family services oriented projects throughout Central Oregon.  Since it began over 13 years ago, the event has raised in excess of $800,000 for the children and families of Central Oregon.  This year we hope to hit the million dollar mark.  A limited number of corporate tables are still available.  Individual tickets will be available June 2nd.  Call Moira at Deschutes Brewery, 312-6947 for details.

Sagebrush Needs You!!!

Yes, it’s only April but planning takes time!  July 18th and 19th are the dates for the 2003 Sagebrush Classic and volunteers are an integral element of the event.

Volunteers can assist with Chef preparation on Friday or Saturday.  Work with the chefs, experience the camaraderie leading up to the event and be a significant contributor to the success of the Saturday evening feast.

Saturday evening also presents a unique opportunity to volunteer at the feast, serving with the chefs and enjoying the summer evening as guests enjoy the exotic creations.

Volunteer opportunities are also available on Friday at the Sagebrush Classic tournament.   Help is also a necessity in setting up tables, tents and the stage at the park area on Saturday afternoon.

Please contact Lesley at 312-6944 if you would be interested in working with the chefs on preparation or with service at the event on Saturday evening.  Melissa is the volunteer coordinator for those individuals wanting to work at the tournament or for set-up on Saturday.  Please contact Melissa at 382-9242.

We look forward to hearing from you!
